William Enger brings more than thirty years’ experience in business, general liability, insurance coverage and marine and transportation litigation, including first chair jury trial experience. He also counsels and represents domestic and off-shore insurers in a broad range of subject areas spanning both marine and non-marine losses and first and third party coverages. His first-party practice includes advising insurers as to catastrophic losses due to extreme weather and wildfire events. He brings a problem solving approach to all claims knowing that one must get it right and come to a quick and efficient resolution.

Mr. Enger taught international business at a top twenty US law school and has been a sought after speaker on commercial and insurance topics in the US, UK and Asia. He frequently trains insurance clients on the California Fair Claims Practices regulations.

Mr. Enger served on the California State Bar Advisory Commission on Admiralty and Maritime Law from 2009 to 2015, focusing on the qualification of certified legal specialists. He was president of the Marine Underwriters of Southern California for the 2013 – 2014 term and was selected as one of the Best Lawyers in America (Admiralty and Maritime Law 2019-2020).

  • Lead defense counsel to pipeline operator in consolidated oil spill litigation.
  • Represented cruise operator in dozens of suits arising from severe tilting incident on high seas.
  • Obtained summary judgment for cruise operator in passenger suit alleging severe injuries from norovirus infection.

Education

Mr. Enger received his Juris Doctor in 1989 from UCLA School of Law. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Economy.
